Foster Program

Join Our Foster Program

Gone to the Dogs is looking for some special people who would like to act as temporary foster parents for one or more of our wonderful dogs. The advantages for the dogs are obvious: those that have not yet had much "formal education" get an opportunity to learn things like crate training, house training, and basic obedience. They are already very good at getting along with other dogs, but in a foster home they might be exposed to other animals such as cats and birds, and they might have a chance to spend more time playing with children. In short, a foster setting is like a "trial run" for a real adoption into an indoor home, and foster parents can help make sure that their foster children have the knowledge necessary for a successful permanent adoption.

There are many reasons why people might be interested in bringing a foster dog into their homes. Would you like your children to get a feel for the real responsibilities of dog ownership before committing to a permanent dog of your own? Are you a dog lover and experienced dog person, but you know that you will only be in the area for a year before you move to Europe? Do you enjoy the satisfaction of making it possible for a deserving dog to move into a permanent new home?

If you think you might be interested in acting as a foster parent for one of our great dogs, we would love to hear from you! You will be asked to provide some basic information and some references (similar to what is required from prospective adopters) and there will be a mandatory home visit. This is a great way to have a dog in your life even if you are not quite ready for a lifetime commitment. Please use our Contact Form to let us know you're interested!
